Every time you search for something via Google search, the results you get are based on your data and information in your Google account.
And while these results can be useful as helping you get answers faster. But these search results can be annoying to you.
And you can turn off seeing them via Google settings, either via the web version or the mobile app.
Stop Google from displaying personalized search results
When displaying custom results is turned off, there are many features that you miss, including:
- Autocomplete predictions such as search predictions based on trends and history.
- Personal answers such as your location, reminders, reservations, meetings, and more.
- Recommendations such as what to see, where to travel, restaurants and cafes nearby, and more.
But at the same time, disabling the appearance of personalized results does not affect the personal search results settings in the Google Smart Assistant, Google Maps, or any of the company’s other products.
To do this via the web version or the mobile app, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Google account via this link.
- On the home page of Google, click on the Settings option at the bottom right of the screen.
- From the menu that appears, select the search settings option.
- Under the Personal Results section, click on the Manage option.
- Toggle the button next to the Custom results option to the off position.
Disabling the display of personalized search results does not mean that your Google data is deleted. Instead, your data will not be fed to Google search.
Furthermore, other company products are still able to access your data for a more personalized Google experience across different services.
You can turn the feature back on by following the previous steps.
However, it is recommended that when conducting research, especially on a sensitive topic, to turn off personalized search results temporarily. This is to ensure that you are not exposed to any biased search results.
