How to protect your Facebook account from hacking

The Facebook platform is an attractive target for hackers and cybercriminals due to its huge user base of more than three and a half billion users who log into their accounts at least once every month.

This makes a lot of users face the process of being targeted by hackers or are being targeted at some point.

How do you know that your account has been hacked?

Usually, the first sign that your Facebook account has been hacked is an email message informing you that your password has been changed.

In addition, if you are suddenly logged out of your account and your password no longer works, you may have been hacked.

Some hackers may be able to hack your account. But they won’t change anything, specifically the password. The goal is to sell your data and information to a third party. Or they may want to take advantage of your account occasionally for the long term, and they don’t want to get exposed.

Other signs include a friend complaining that he received a strange message from you. Plus, there are posts you don’t remember writing or shared before, or following people you’re not related to.

How to protect your Facebook account

If you suspect that your account has been hacked, you should request to download your data by following these steps:

  • Go to your Facebook account via this link.

https://www.facebook.com/

  • Click on the down arrow icon at the top right of the screen.
  • From the menu select the option Settings and privacy.
  • Click on the Settings option and then your Facebook information tab on the left side.
  • Select the option to download my information on the right side.
  • On this screen, select the time period, media resolution, and file type.
  • Click on the Create File option.

Visit the same page after a day or two by following the previous steps, and then click on the Available Versions tab.

Your data file is ready for download to your device. Once downloaded, you can view any changes to your account and see which devices are logged in and their location.

For additional protection, create a strong password consisting of letters, symbols and numbers with two-factor authentication enabled.

You can also avoid getting your account hacked or quickly restore it by setting up notifications about unknown logins. And constantly review your activity history to see which devices are signed in to your account.

It’s also important to review the apps, websites, and game apps associated with your account and delete those you don’t need.
